DJ Benvenuto the Raccoon II (With the Funny Hat) has this to say:
It's soccer time. The World Cup is in full swing.
There are about 9 games remaining (I may be wrong on that) and everybody has World Cup fever.
That got me thinking. Why don't people here in the U.S.A. like soccer more?
First off, they would probably be more interested if the U.S. team had done better but I think the problem runs deeper than that.
Personally, I really like the game the way it is but the average "American" would say it's too boring and not intense.
So I came up with an idea.
The game needs 22 players. Yes, I do know that the game already has 22 players but that's in total. I'm saying the game needs 22 players on each team. More players on the field will equal more goals. It's an obvious conclusion.
However, there would be rules.
There can only be 3 players allowed as defenders. In other words, the 17 other players would not be allowed to return to their half of the field and the 3 defensive players would be free to move up with the attack but that's their choice.
Now you probably added 17 and 3 and got 20. Where are the other 2 players?
In this game there are 2 goalkeepers per team and the goal is twice as long. There's also no off-side rule. So the combination of all this would make the game more goal and "American" friendly.
Seventeen men that aren't allowed to go back past half field to defend versus three defenders and two goalkeepers will make for a new and amazing type of soccer.
No more 0-0 games. They'll be 40-35 and that's a low score.
Can you imagine three men trying to take the ball away from 17 men? What about the two goalkeepers crashing into each other and knocking each other unconscious?
I love it.
This is the soccer of the future. Oh, and when you score a goal the circle in the middle of the field shoots fireworks.
Also, sometimes extra balls will be thrown on the field when a yellow card is given.
You read it here first, FIFA. If you want to get the U.S. into soccer make it more extreme. It worked for the XFL. Just give me credit and a few bucks.
That was a pretty long update.
There's that theory that if you make enough of something whether it be food, works of literature, art or anything else eventually you'll make something good.
Hopefully that applies to my update.
Make sure to check out the other updates too.
