Contra – Shattered Soldier (PS2) |
The in-game HUD (heads-up display) of Contra – Shattered Soldier is very simple.
Player information and amount of lives left are situated at the top two corners of the screen. Player 1 (1P) is at the top left and player 2 (2P) is at the top right. If in single player mode, player 2’s information is not visible.
Beneath the display of lives are three icons that represent the three weapons each player can choose from. As the player switches between weapons, the icons rotate in a three-dimensional circle, with the current weapon's icon appearing closer and larger. The other two weapon icons are more transparent and slightly smaller. The rotation occurs quickly and the current weapon's icon pulsates slightly when it is first selected.
At the top center of the screen is a box with “Hit Rate” written in large letters. The box displays the total accuracy (objects and enemies destroyed) of the players' attacks as a percentage.
All the boxes in the HUD are slightly transparent, with dull colors that stay consistent with the color scheme of the other menus in the game.
The fonts are simple and easy to read. The larger font is a simple typewriter style. The smaller font may be handmade pixel artwork. Aside from the weapon icons, there are no other decorations or images on the HUD.
