Chapter 3
It was already early afternoon and the sky had opened up and it was raining
hard over the city.
The caravan headed down Beach Boulevard towards an isolate Palace with six Rykastaka Palace Guards towers around it. The Palace sat in top of a small hill facing the ocean.
The caravan stopped in front of the main entrance and a Guard opened the door and the General got out.
The entrance was lined up with Palm trees at each side. In top of the Palace main gate hung the shield of the Otran Empire.
The General went up the stairs and into his private residency. As he opened the oak doors, the main hall appeared. The main had a silk carpet from the desert kingdom Bhari on the floor and another tapestry from another desert kingdom hanging from the wall.
Porcelain statues were lined up in the length of the hall. The floor was made of marble extracted from the Khuska Mountains that were located in a northern province.
He entered the living room and took off his coat and threw to the side.
A little girl with red hair around the age of 8 or 9 came running up to him and jumped on his lap. Her name was Katrina Zadorsky; she was the youngest daughter of the General.
“Daddy, how are you doing?” she asked.
“Good, Katrina and how was school?" he asked her.
“Very good, daddy we learned today about the beginning of the Otran Empire and how people stood up to the wealthy oppressive rules and formed a better nation of brotherhood,” she said.
“That’s great, I hope you learned a lot,” he said.
“Yes daddy I did,” she told him.
The General looked at her and asked her where her brother and sister were. She responded that they were bathing in the beach behind the castle.
As she was leaving the room, she looked at her dad and said:
“Daddy, can I get tickets to see the Mayorkis Brothers?”
“Who are the Mayorkis Brothers?” he asked with a confused look on his face.
“A boy band,” she said with a smile.
“Sure,” he told her.
She left the living room for her study room and the General stayed there alone. He got up from his chair picked up the phone and dialed his private secretary.
“Hello, sir how can I be of service,” she asked.
“Mrs. Wadaworski, I want you to get me six tickets for the Mayorkis Brothers at the Lyska Arena and also get me six backstage VIP passes,” he told her.
“Yes sir, I will have them by tomorrow,” she told him and hung up.
He walked to his liquor cabinet and opened a bottle of Dhada and poured some on a glass.
The General walked to the balcony overlooking the ocean and took a seat.
At the back of the castle were miles of a pristine private beach. There were sand dunes designed especially for all-terrain vehicles. Also there were yachts and wave-runners. Coconuts palm trees could be found all along the beach.
He looked out at the sea and saw waves crashing against the shoreline. The waves were bigger than usual, the sea was rougher. The General noticed two shadows out in the water surfing the rough waves.
He lay back on his chair and closed his eyes.
Hours later, a hand rubbed his face slowly. The General opened his eyes and saw his wife standing next to him.
Karina Ilushen Zadorsky was a 43 year old woman with black hair and blue eyes. She was the head of the Women Defense for the Otran Empire Organization. Karina had gotten her degree in Philosophy / Economics in the Yadaska University in the port city of Bada.
The women in general in Otran Empire couldn’t find any jobs besides teaching unless they were married or were family of one of the many top government officials.
“How are you doing, Alex?” she said.
“Tired, the affairs of the Empire consume a lot of time,” he said.
“I heard you gave a holiday for tomorrow,” she told him.
“Yes I did,” he said.
“Well, dinner should be ready in any minute,” she told him.
“What are we having?” he asked.
“Lobster with white wine,” she answered and left the balcony.
The General got up from his chair and walked back into the living room. As he
entered the living room his oldest son Alexei and his oldest daughter
Catherine entered the house.
They were carrying their $3000 surf boards. They saluted their father and continued to their respective rooms.
The General took a seat in the living room and started to read a magazine as he waited for his dinner.
Dinner was served a couple minutes later. The General took a seat at the head of the table and waited for his family to join him.
His family joined him at the table a couple minutes later. The lobster with white wine was served and they started to eat.
As the General ate, he observed everyone around him.
When the dinner was finished, the General got up and headed to the shower.
He finished his bath and headed to bed.
